The irrepressible duo, Tom and Dick Smothers will bring their unique blend of mirth and music to FEINSTEIN'S at the Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue, NYC - - https://feinsteinsattheregency.com/) on Tuesday, May 29th for their first New York City nightclub engagement since their appearances at the legendary Blue Angel and Basin Street East. The Smothers Brothers will perform their "Art of Duet" - songs interrupted by comedy and conversation disrupted by music - through Saturday, June 9th. Their Feinstein's appearance is also a highlight in America's largest comedy celebration, New York's Toyota Comedy Festival.
Tom and Dick Smothers' act is based on truth, told funny, revealed through their sibling rivalry-based comedy, with Dick, the younger brother, showing frayed patience as he attempts to contain and discipline his older brother Tom. In the hands of the brothers, the merriment is foiled by self-accompanied songs with Tom on guitar and Dick on bass. When asked how they keep their banter fresh - Tommy, the elder responded, "We keep it topical, improvise and rely on each other's instincts."
The Smothers Brothers' first professional appearance was at The Purple Onion in San Francisco in 1959 and their first national television appearance was on "The Tonight Show with Jack Paar" in 1961. Tom and Dick have been TV staples - starring in their own prime-time comedy series in the 1960s, 1970s and 19 80s. Due to their cutting-edge anti-war sentiments and their battles with censorship, "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" is now studied in universities across the country as an important factor in the revolutionary changes undergone in the U.S. during the 1960s. Recognizing their enduring contributions to the entertainment world, the Museum of Broadcasting in New York produced a retrospective and seminar on their work, an honor not lightly accorded. The native New Yorkers have diverse interests, Dick is a cycling and yoga enthusiast and Tom's passions are golf and his award-winning winery - Remick Ridge.
