Dan Hill
Dan Hill grew up listening to Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan but it is Sinatra who he credits as his primary influence - in terms of delivery and phrasing. Dan began his music career at age 14 playing professionally in small gatherings and coffee houses. By age 19, he signed to GRT Records in Canada and so began his quick rise to fame. It was Dans soulful Longer Fuse album (1977) and his single (co-written with Barry Mann)
Sometimes When We Touch which catapulted Dan to international success as a singer/songwriter. The album reached Platinum in the United States and gave Dan his third Canadian gold album. Dan Hill was named Top New Male Vocalist in both Cashbox and Record World. He won Juno Awards for Composer of the Year/Male Vocalist of the Year and was nominated for a Grammy. In 1982, Dan sang the song "It's a Long Road" on Sylvester Stallone's first Rambo film, "First Blood." In 1988, Dan's Never Thought (That I Could Love) hit the top of the charts. In 1998 when Sammy Kershaw recorded Dan's Love of My Life, Dan won ASCAPs award for one of the years most played songs. All in all Dan has garnered four #1 songs, 12 Top Ten records, 1 Grammy, 5 Junos, 4 Platinum Albums, and 2 Gold Albums. Celine Dion (in numerous concerts and interviews) said that Dans Seduces Me was her favorite song on the album. She later performed Seduces Me every night during her five-year stint at Caesars/Las Vegas. Celines 2008 DVD of her Caesar show sold 1 million copies. Dan Hills career was highlighted with the The Harold Moon Award - the highest honor given to a Canadian songwriter for great international contributions in songwriting.
